Doctoral Student Masum Billah Presents Research at the AI4AS Conference in Ghent, Belgium

On June 29–30, the European Federation of Animal Science (EAAP), ILVO (Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food), and Ghent University hosted the 2nd Artificial Intelligence for Animal Science (AI4AS) Conference in Ghent, Belgium. The event brought together researchers, industry professionals, and students from around the world to discuss the latest advances in artificial intelligence and its applications in animal science.

Doctoral student Masum Billah presented his research, “Image-Derived Digital Similarity Matrices as a Scalable Proxy for Pedigree and Genomic Relationship Matrices.” His work explores how image-derived similarity matrices align with genetic relatedness among individuals, highlighting their potential as a scalable alternative to traditional pedigree and genomics based relationship matrices. The study demonstrates how computer vision can extract biologically meaningful information from animal images, supporting the development of efficient, scalable approaches for genetic evaluation.
