From the Atlanta Airport to Athens

The nearest and useful airport is Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The airport is located 75-80 miles (120-130 km) away from Athens.

Rental cars

The car is the most efficient and flexible transportation tool in the United States. The airport has many rental-car agencies. You can reserve a car with their web sites.

Shuttle bus (Groome)

Groome is a shuttle bus service from the airport to Athens. The seat should be reserved online and the cost is $39 for one way trip. The bus connects the Domestic Terminal at the airport to The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education (known as Georgia Center) in the campus. Note that the bus doesn’t stop at the International terminal. See the Groome website for details.

Parking lots at UGA

Public transportation in Athens

The UGA Transit (free bus service)

The University of Georgia provides free bus services. The routes cover the entire campus including downtown, Five Points and the Department of Animal and Dairy Science. The East-West and Orbit routes are especially useful for the connection between the downtown and the department. The schedule changes by season i.e. regular, intersession or summer season etc. See the UGA Transit website for details.

The Athens Transit

The Athens Transit is the public bus service provided by the Athens city. The fare is $1.75 per trip for adult. The routes cover the entire Athens. See the Athens Transit website for details.

Accommodation

There are several options for a visitor to stay here for days/weeks/months. The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education (so-called “Georgia Center”) operates UGA Hotel. The downtown area has several hotels and you can book the rooms online. Please visit review websites or travel agencies website to find a hotel suitable for your stay. An apartment for rent can be a reasonable option for long-term stay.
